        Home performance contracting is a new, exciting, and growing industry. By aligning our company, EnTherm, Incorporated, with this industry, as we did in 2001, we have been able to grow our business steadily and profitably—indeed, our business has doubled over the last four years. EnTherm, Incorporated, which is based in Syracuse, New York, started out as an insulation contracting company in 1980. Over the next two decades, we took small steps to broaden the services we offered. But it wasn’t until 2001, when we elected to participate in the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA)-sponsored Home Performance with Energy Star program, that we made the full transition to home performance contracting.While the program’s marketing, training, and financing assistance eased our transition, our experience contains some general principles that can serve to shortcut the process of starting and running a successful home performance contracting business.
