National Residential Retrofit Guidelines
DOE is investing a lot of money in the residential retrofit market, and if more private capital is to take up the baton after Recovery Act dollars run out in 2012, DOE wants to work with industry leaders now to define the performance requirements for high quality work, and the minimum conditions needed to achieve the desired ROI's, like saving money and energy. That's why Ben presented information on the National Residential Retrofit Guidelines, currently in development, to attendees at the National Community Action Foundation's Energy Leveraging Conference last week.
In addition to a set of Standard Work Specifications for the entire range of whole house energy retrofits, these voluntary Guidelines also include Job Task Analyses, and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) for the four Home Energy Retrofit Job Classifications that will implement these Standards: Energy Auditor, Installer/Technician, Crew Chief, and Quality Assurance Inspector.
A full round of public comment on the Guidelines begins November 9 through Jan 7, 2011, coordinated by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Ben hopes to issue final guidelines during the Winter 2010-11.
